Public transport in Lucas and Ballarat West has received a major boost with a significant upgrade to Wendouree Railway Station in order to cater for the fast growing patronage travelling from the station. A second platform and track will be added, a brand new forecourt and a walking overpass are set to transform the bustling station into a second transport hub for the city.
Transport Infrastructure Minister Jacinta Allan today unveiled the plans which are part the $500 million overhaul to the Ballarat line. The project will commence construction in April this year.
The addition of the new tracks and second platform will allow for trains to pass each other at the station which will allow for much needed extra services to operate on the line.
The upgrade will also include new lighting, enhanced CCTV coverage, landscaping and seating and the mural at the entrance painted by Ratartat and students from Yuille Park Community College will also be retained in the precinct.
This is fantastic news for our community and will strenghten the connection Lucas has with Central Ballarat, Melbourne and beyond.
